New research: memory is a factor in the regulation of appetite | Cranberries
Always amazes me to see how much memory has a big role in the regulation of hunger and satiety mechanism in our. A new study released last month and posted on the journal sba Public Library of Science One shows how the memory of eating a dish that looks great can make us feel full, while the memory of eating a dish that only seems smaller makes us more hungry and eat more at subsequent meals.
Sounds a bit complicated? Soon you will understand everything. Above study used an ingenious trick to manipulating the memory sba of the participants regarding their lunch: soup plate attached to the table below concealed pipe can draw or add soup bowl. Participants were 100 volunteers. Half were given bowls containing 300 ml of soup and half were given bowls containing 500 ml of soup. shirts 300 ml broth was divided so that half really ate 300 ml but half eaten 500 ml (pump added them to soup while eating, without their knowledge of course). The group of 500 mL was divided so that half really ate 500 ml but only ate half of 300 ml (pump drew them soup bowl while eating). Meaning - 4 groups, each group contained 25 volunteers. Manipulation done research basically means that the volunteers in 500 ml remember eating a lot of soup, the results look larger bowl, and volunteers in 300 ml remember eating soup, the results look small bowl.
Straight sba after lunch, sba reports on the level of satiety influenced by the amount actually eaten rather than quantity seized eaten. Examination carried out 2-3 hours after a meal scouted opposite effect: hunger was affected by the quantity seized and the amount actually eaten eaten. sba That is, all the volunteers who ate or thought they ate 500 ml (and actually ate less) Mark said they felt less hungry and all the volunteers who ate 300 ml or 300 ml ate thought (but actually ate more) said they felt more hungry.
The next day, the memory of the volunteers about the ability to satisfy them soup continued to be affected by the amount of memory they saw eating (large or small bowl) and the amount they actually sba ate: they are filed in a large soup bowl the day before stating this amount probably will satisfy them, while those filed a small bowl of soup the day before (even if the bowl was filled while eating) declared a small bowl will satisfy them not.
Relationship between mental functioning and obesity is extremely complex, and only recently, scientists began to understand it. Neurologists has long understood that their memory sba people injured as a result of any injury or stroke, usually able to eat one meal after another since without a memory of the last meal are much less responsive to hormonal signals that signal the brain to stop eating their (sense of fullness).
For the first time, the manipulation was done in this study reveals the important contribution and memory processes independent sba of a feeling of satiety. It seems that our ability to remember what we ate and how behavior affects our eating at the next meal. Unnecessary distractions, lack of attention and food display (eg large serving plates distorted our estimate food rations) can cause confusion in our memory about how we ate. The end result is weight gain.
