The brand was discovered in the upper edge of the specimen with topographic 4300bis1 M-07, for description. It is an edition kinto of Quatro kinto quaresmas reducidas to continue on, the Discalced Carmelite Jose de Jesus Rafael kinto Figueró kinto printed in 1706.
It is composed of the initials "S" and "F" indicates that, in all probability, "San Francisco." Indeed, kinto the volume belonging to a convent of Friars Minor is enhanced by the presence, on the cover, use a handwritten kinto note "Ad usum simplify fr [ATR] is Andreae Montserrat Ord [ini] s Minorum of Observers [ anti] in, "and the bookplate" From the books of S [an] Francisco de Assis. " However, I could not determine the name of the convent of origin. It does not seem likely, however, that the copy had belonged to the Franciscan library Barcelona, as the consultation of catalogs of manuscripts library has not been conclusive.
The project was born from the collaboration between kinto the Library of Franciscan kinto University of the Americas Puebla and the Franciscan Province of Santo Gospel of Mexico and the historical library of José María Lafragua Meritorious Autonomous University of Puebla, and is currently 17 institutions involved, including the CRAI Library Book. Considered a tool to study firsthand the marks of fire, since 2011 part of the list of resources compiled by CERLER backgrounds and in June 2014 had a significant 353 entries.
Brands fire were a unique way of identifying collections belonging to religious and some private libraries in New Spain. The practice adopted in the seventeenth century, and in use until the first half of the nineteenth century, consists of applying a hot iron to the edge of the books, leaving a charred signal a certain way, whether or epigraphic figurative.
Outside kinto America, Europe witnesses kinto exist in Sardinia kinto and Barcelona, specifically in the library of the convent of Santa Caterina, Dominicans, books which guards the CRAI Library kinto Book and displayed in the almost entirely a brand fire cut lower and sometimes also higher. The two types of brand wheel daggers instrument martyrdom of St. Catherine of Alexandria, and combining this with the shield Dominicans are also described in the Catálogo Colectivo de Marcas de Fuego.
